Fresh Fruit...frutta fresca

No Tuscan meal is complete without fresh fruit. More often than not, meals finish with fruit and not dessert. There are Italian unspoken laws on how and with what to eat fruit. Prosciutto and melon is a classic, but did you know about figs and salame or Pecorino and pears!

I wait for the summer to gorge on susine, plums of all sizes and shapes. I'm very lucky that my neighbors in Certaldo have fruit trees and are never here! The fabulous Macedonia di Frutta is in its glory in summer. Peaches, both white and yellow, plums, berries, and apricots, spiked with wine or just lemon and sugar are refreshing and perfect to finish off a summer meal.
